Operational Responsibilities & Daily Execution

Your day begins early at the local Post Office branch. Before hitting the streets, you will spend time 'casing' your mail—sorting letters and flats into delivery sequence. Your core duties include:

• Neighborhood Route Execution: Navigate a densely packed urban or suburban route. You will execute a mix of "park and loop" (walking block to block with a satchel) and mounted delivery (delivering directly from the vehicle to curbside mailboxes).
• Postal Vehicle Operation: Safely pilot the iconic right-hand-drive Long Life Vehicle (LLV) or the newer Next Generation Delivery Vehicle (NGDV). You must master right-side driving and strict postal safety protocols in heavy city traffic.
• Accountable Mail Management: Utilize specialized scanning devices to track certified mail, registered parcels, and international packages, capturing required customer signatures at the door.
• Extreme Weather Endurance: The mail must go out regardless of the forecast. You must possess the physical and mental grit to walk several miles a day carrying a 35-pound satchel in rain, sleet, snow, or extreme summer heat.

A comprehensive federal background check, medical assessment, and drug screening are mandatory.
